Chris
Somner
I
started
boat
building
in
1998,
working
for
Bob
Hoare
Ltd,
building
Contenders
and
Poole
AB’s
whilst
undertaking
a
City
and
guilds
in
Yacht
and
Boat
building
which
I
completed
in
2003.
I
then
left
Bob
Hoare
Ltd
and
joined
Latham’s
Boatyard
repairing
wooden
yachts
and
involved
in
running
the
office
until
April
2006
when
I
set
up
my
own
business
building
and
repairing
dinghies
and
small
yachts.

We
took
on
the
contract
to
build
Cadet
sailing
dinghies
using
the
class
association
moulds,
and
purchased
the
Wavelength/
Bob
Hoare
contender
moulds
and
the
Poole
AB
moulds.
In
October
2006
we
also
started
to
work
in
conjunction
with
the
yachting
world
dayboat
class
to
build
new
boats
and
rejuvenate
the
class.
I
currently
sail
an
International
moth
( a
foiler)
which
I'm a
bit
fat
for,
and
I
sail
an
RS200
with
my
wife
Anita.

after
the
office
for
us,
making
sure
that
we
are
organised
most
of
the
time,
sails
with
me
some
of
the
time,
or
acts
as
rescue
boat
when
I’m
out
in
the
moth! |

The

Andy
Welch
(wood)
Specialises
in
wooden
boat
repairs,
anything
from
fixing
rudders
to
complete
rebuilds,
and
redecks.
Andy
trained
at
Latham’s
boatyard
as a
youngster,
joined
the
police
and
on
retiring
came
back
to
work
with
boats.
Andy
is a
keen
sailor,
often
seen
at
the
front
of
the
GP14
fleet
at
Poole
yacht
club,
on
deck
for
cruiser
racing,
or
just
drifting
around
on
his
Yacht
(Fanny).
Martin
Pearson
(paint)
Martin
joins
us
from
time
to
time
to
measure
boats
and
to
spray
the
odd
boat
for
us.
Having
run
a
body
shop
Martin
has
retired
from
working
with
cars
and
enjoys
yacht
racing
and
chasing
his
kids
round
the
county
to a
variety
of
dinghy
sailing
events. |
